From April 27 to May 2, we are bringing Europe to the cinema for our audience. In addition to 148 current feature films, documentaries and short films from 34 different countries, around 120 film guests from all over Europe will also be traveling to Linz to present their work in person. On our website you can find info about which guests will be present.

Competition Fiction

Whether private or socio-political, this competition with 11 films is thematically broad. A journey across Europe - not always straightforward, sometimes unorthodox, but always passionate. The Competition Fiction jury gives out the Best Fiction award (€ 5000,- powered by Linz Kultur) to the director of the award-winning film. The audience chooses the Audience Award (€ 5000,-powered by Land Oberösterreich Kultur).

Festival Juries 2022

We are happy to announce that a total of 14 jury members will be attending in-person in Linz. There they will decide on the winning films in the competition sections Competition Fiction, Competition Documentary, and Competition Local Artists. The entries in the competition section YAAAS! Competition will be judged by the YAAAS! Youth Jury.

In just under two weeks Linz will once again become the central hub for European cinema: The nineteenth edition of CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival will take place between 27 April and 2 May 2022.

Sociopolitical film highlights

Within the nineteenth edition of CROSSING EUROPE many films that will celebrate their Austrian premieres also deal with topics of sociopolitical relevance, such as displacement as a direct result of war, but also films that insist on a strengthening of a European community of solidarity.

For the first time, in 2022 a collection of films from previous festival editions of CROSSING EUROPE will be presented on filmfriend.at, a Video-on-Demand platform for libraries and universities, in cooperation with the city library of Linz.

Architecture and Society: LAND FOR US ALL!

Cinema Next Europe Club 2022

The Cinema Next Europe Club intends to give young filmmakers the possibility to take part in the film festival and to be able to gather specific inputs, as well as being able to enter into a direct exchange with other young filmmakers.

Working Worlds 2022: Care
