AGAIN A POSITIVE CONCLUSION FOR THE CROSSING EUROPE FILM FESTIVAL LINZ

The beginning of the festival week seemed to briefly recall superstitions about the “seventh year”: there was – quite literally – a grey cloud hanging over CROSSING EUROPE. Due to the cloud of volcanic ash, several international guests had to cancel their attendance, and there was doubt about some of the film copies arriving on time. But now at the end of the delightful and especially inspiring festival week, not only is the sun shining in a cloudless sky over Linz, but Festival Director Christine Dollhofer also has much to report that is positive:

24.04.2010: Awards 2010

Zvonimir Juric and Goran Devic are the winners of the Competition European Cinema and receive the CROSSING EUROPE Award European Competition 2010 for CRNCI/THE BLACKS.

Winner of the ray Audience Award is Séverine Cornamusaz with COEUR ANIMAL/ANIMAL HEART.

Erik Gandini receives the CROSSING EUROPE Award European Documentary, awarded for the first time this year, for VIDEOCRACY.

The CROSSING EUROPE Award Local Artist is divided this year into a money prize and a material prize and goes to Michaela Mandel for SINISTER SISTERS SLAUGHTERHOUSE and to Ella Raidel for SLAM VIDEO MAPUTO.

The CROSSING EUROPE Award Local Artist – Atelier Award is also presented for the first time this year, specifically now to Gloria Gammer & Sigrid Nagele for THE LAW OF THE TIME – RITORNELL.

08.04.2010: Festival Program 2010

The coming and thus seventh edition of the CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival Linz takes place in the first year following Linz 2009 European Capital of Culture. In 2010 the second largest international film festival in Austria again undertakes to make Linz a multifaceted festival hot spot for about one week. The Festival remains true to its program, presenting outstanding, willful, socio-political auteur cinema from Europe from Tuesday, 20 April to Sunday 25 April.

09.03.2010: Festival Opening

CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival Linz opens on 20 April with Berlinale award-winning film KAK YA PROVEL ETIM LETOM/HOW I ENDED THIS SUMMER by the Russian Tribute director Alexei Popogrebsky, the world premiere of ES MUSS WAS GEBEN by the Upper Austrian filmmakers Christian Tod and Oliver Stangl, and the international co-production NA PUTU/ON THE PATH by the Bosnian auteur filmmaker Jasmila Žbanic, and starts the program section NIGHTSIGHT on European genre cinema with VENGEANCE.

A few highlights offer a sneak peak at this year’s festival program in the seventh edition of CROSSING EUROPE FILM FESTIVAL LINZ // 20 – 25 April 2010.

08.02.2010: OK-Artist in Residence_Dokfilm-Award
Announcement of this year’s OK Artist in Residence – Rainer Gamsjäger, the new CROSSING EUROPE Award European Documentary (powered by ORF) to be awarded for the first time in 2010, and the new program section RECLAIMING SPACE in cooperation with the Architecture Forum Upper Austria.
