A New Year's Eve night in Split. While the young people of the city are counting down to the new year with a rock band, a few people are wandering around in a side street, who don't feel like celebrating. Nike has just left his girlfriend, a single mother and war widow, to head for Munich with heroin. Maja desper-ately needs a shot and ends up in the claws of a dealer, who turns her over to a depressive American sailor.
