DEAD SLOW AHEAD

DEAD SLOW AHEAD

A freighter crosses the ocean. The hypnotic rhythm of its pace reveals the continuous movement of the machinery devouring its workers: the old sailors’ gestures disappearing under the mechanical and impersonal pulse of the 21st century neo-capitalism. Perhaps it is a boat adrift, or maybe just the last example of an endangered species with engines still running, unstoppable.

MAURO HERCE, born in Barcelona in 1976, is a Spanish artist and documentary filmmaker. He studied at the Escuela Internacional de Cine y Televisión in San Antonio de los Baños and the École nationale supérieure Louis-Lumière in Paris. Dead Slow Ahead, his first feature film as a director, premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival, where it also won the Special Jury Prize. At the Jihlava International Film Festival, it received the Best World Documentary Award.
