The Wondrous World of Laundry
German director Hans-Christian Schmid follows the route of the sheets, towels, napkins and tablecloths from renowned hotels in Berlin to Poland, to a laundry belonging to a German entrepreneur. Polish workers keep the machines running there around the clock for low wages. A story about work that has migrated, and about the people who do it day after day. Five years after Poland joined the European Union, the border to Germany is open, but the beautiful world of Berlin‘s five-star hotels is still very far away.
Director's Biography
Hans-Christian Schmid, geboren 1965 in Altötting, lebt in Berlin. Studium an der HFF in München, Drehbuchstudium an der USC in Los Angeles. Langjährige Zusammenarbeit mit den Produzenten Jakob Claussen und Thomas Wöbke sowie dem Drehbuchautor Michael Gutmann. Etliche seiner Filme und deren Darsteller wurden mit Preisen ausgezeichnet. 2004 gründete Schmid die Produktionsfirma 23|5.
