SELBSTKRITIK EINES BÜRGERLICHEN HUNDES / Self-criticism of a Bourgeois Dog

SELBSTKRITIK EINES BÜRGERLICHEN HUNDES / Self-criticism of a Bourgeois Dog

A dog explains how he came to be transformed from an unemployed communist filmmaker into a canine with a philosophical bent: Young filmmaker Julian – ironically played by Julian Radlmaier himself – falls for young expat Camille, and offers her the leading part in his wannabe communist fairy tale film. Surprisingly, she follows him in his search for inspiration, leftist ideals, and enlightenment. A quirky political comedy on living and filmmaking. Proletarian revolutions might not generally be triggered by romantic desires, but in Julian Radlmaier’s comically absurd Self-criticism of a Bourgeois Dog, it doesn’t seem such a far-fetched proposition. (International Film Festival Rotterdam)
