2015 starben bei einem Brand im Bukarester Club „Colectiv“ 27 junge Menschen wegen mangelnder Sicherheitsvorkehrungen. Wütende Proteste waren die Folge. Doch es kam noch schlimmer: 37 Verletzte starben aufgrund desaströser Verhältnisse in den Krankenhäusern, unter anderem wurden verdünnte Desinfektionsmittel verwendet. Regisseur Nanau folgt einer Gruppe von Journalisten, die diesen beispiellosen Skandal aufdeckten, und dem neuen Gesundheitsminister, der nach den Protesten eingesetzt wurde. Witnessing thousands united in protest after the devastating Colectiv Club fire awakened in me a need to understand people dedicated to the greater good. Only by moulding into the lives of my protagonists, could I begin to grasp their courage in the search for truth, and their resilience in overcoming pain. In the process, I also learned how people and systems manipulate from power positions, pervert the truth and the law, and trample on human dignity and fundamental rights. For me this film is about not taking democracy and social justice for granted. (Alexander Nanau)
Director's Biography
Alexander Nanau: Alexander Nanau is a Romanian documentary filmmaker who trained in Germany. His 2010 documentary "The World According to Ion B." won an Emmy in the section Arts Programming, while his documentary "Toto and His Sisters" (2015) was nominated for an EFA award. His latest film, "Collective", premiered at the Venice International Film Festival 2019.
