Die deutsche Entwicklungshelferin Dorothea organisiert Charity-Projekte im arabischen Krisengebiet. Um Spenden von Botschafterinnen und Botschaftern wohlhabender Länder zu lukrieren, gibt sie Empfänge in einem von Panzern umstellten Luxushotel. Dorothea ist gut in dem, was sie tut – auch aufgrund des Alkohols, mit dessen Hilfe sie nicht nur sich selbst, sondern auch ihre Gäste bei Laune hält. Sie beginnt eine Affäre mit dem wesentlich jüngeren Araber Alec, der sich von ihr ausstatten und aushalten lässt. Doch was zunächst wie ein willkommener Zeitvertreib erscheint, führt schließlich zum totalen Kontrollverlust …

Dorothea, an aid worker with a humanitarian organization, has launched a project to help the people of a land menaced by civil war. The luxury of her wealthy world finds a cynical reflection in the poverty evident all around. Then she embarks upon an affair with the much younger Alec, who seems to be simply an attractive 24-year-old Arab drifter. Their two worlds collide, impelled by their mutual lust for adventure.
