Don't Let the Sun

Derart heiß ist es geworden auf der Welt, dass das Leben der Menschen sich in die Nacht verlagert und die Gesellschaft sich vereinzelt hat. Wer Einsamkeit und Verlust nicht erträgt, kann Dienstleister für Nähe in Anspruch nehmen. Ein solcher ist Jonah, der für die neunjährige Nika den Vater vertritt. Nika wäre ein echter Freund lieber; Jonahs Panzer bröckelt. Dokumentarfilmerin Zünd bleibt ihrer ästhetischen Strategie von Verdichtung und Distanz auch in ihrem Spielfilmdebüt treu. Die Geschichte, die weniger forsch voranschreitende Handlung denn emotionales Gespinst in sanfter Bewegung ist, befördert sie wortkarg und im Schritttempo voran. Melancholisch, doch leise hoffend. Jonah is a peculiar type of actor who provides comfort to strangers by pretending to be one of their loved ones in a world where, due to the increasing heat from the sun, people live their lives during the night. The film uses the isolation caused by the climate crisis to set up a very intimate story about parenthood and hope for the future, despite its downbeat setting. In DON'T LET THE SUN, nine-year-old Nika marks a breaking point in Jonah’s relatively stable job.
