Ostannii Prometei Donbasu

Ein Kraftwerk im Fadenkreuz: Nur wenige Kilometer von der Front entfernt steht in der Stadt Kurachowe ein Wärmekraftwerk, das letzte noch in Betrieb befindliche seiner Art im Donbass. Wo einst die Industrie als Stolz der Sowjetunion gefeiert wurde, zeugen heute Ruinen von Zerstörung und Entwurzelung. Archivaufnahmen aus den 1930er Jahren kontrastieren mit der Gegenwart. Aus Verantwortungsbewusstsein gegenüber ihrem Land halten die Arbeiter*innen die Stellung, obwohl jedes Mal, wenn das Kraftwerk in Betrieb genommen wird, russische Bomben fallen. Eine Evakuierung gen Westen scheint unvermeidlich.

Even in this moment it becomes clear that behind the rhetoric of the Russian invasion and its promises of liberation there lies nothing but suffering, loss, and destruction. Where stood the heavy industry of Donbas, once celebrated as the pride of the Soviet Union, ruins now bear witness to destruction and uprooting. Archival footage from the 1930s contrasts with the present: back then, it was reconstruction; today, it is systematic annihilation by those who see themselves as the heirs of this era.
