Danielius, Mitte dreißig und seit kurzem Vater, verlässt seine Familie in Norwegen für eine Reise in seine Heimat Litauen, um die Wohnung seiner Eltern zu verkaufen. Der Aufenthalt zieht sich hin, da er es auch nicht eilig hat, unternimmt er den Versuch Kontakt zu alten Freunden herzustellen in einer Stadt, die ihm inzwischen fremd geworden ist. Regisseur und Kameramann Vytautas Katkus knüpft mit seinem preisgekrönten, auf 16mm gedrehten Spielfilmdebüt an seine Kurzfilmfilmarbeiten an, getragen von einem träumerisch-kontemplativen Zugang zu Themen wie Erinnerung, Identität und Zeit. Diese scheint völlig stillzustehen, in dieser einst vertrauten und nun fremd gewordenen Welt, in der die Brüchigkeit der menschlichen Seele zum Vorschein tritt.

It’s the end of summer. Danielius, a new father in his mid-thirties, leaves his family in Norway and travels to his native Lithuania to sell his parents’ flat. He tries to reconnect with old friends, but the strong bond he once had with them is now broken. Instead of rushing back to his young family to escape the deafening loneliness, he decides to stay, allowing himself to be guided by his solitude. In his feature debut, director and cameraman Vytautas Katkus indirectly builds on his own short filmmaking endeavours, while also adopting a loose conception of time. Here, time seems to have stopped completely in a world which lights up the fragility of the human soul and images of a home that is no longer ours.
