Am Anfang steht die Liebe zu einem Gebäude, die den Künstler Boris Bakal zu einer zwanzigjährigen Auseinandersetzung mit Bewohner*innen, Ämtern und Baufirmen veranlasst: Der von Ivan Vitić entworfene Wohnbau gilt als eines der herausragendsten Beispiele moderner kroatischer Architektur. 1962 fertiggestellt, ist das Hochhaus bereits in die Jahre gekommen und benötigt dringend eine Renovierung. Diesen Prozess hält Bakal filmisch fest und zeichnet dabei das Bild einer Hausgemeinschaft, die sich zu einer Metapher für die ganze kroatische Gesellschaft entwickelt. (Gerald Wöss)

The film follows the 20-year struggle of artist Boris Bakal, who tries to save a modernist building in Zagreb from decay and neglect while facing resistance and misunderstanding from the co-owners and tenants. The building, with its dynamics, ownership structure and controversies of the residents, is a faithful impression of the whole of Central European society. It’s a hypertextual story about exploring the purpose and futility of individual advocacy for the common good. A story about all of us, others around us, and the space we share – with a surprisingly happy ending. (Budapest Architecture Film Festival)
