Aus 300 Bewerber*innen wurden 30 dazu eingeladen, für die Hauptrolle im polnischen Netflix-Film FANFIC vorzusprechen. WE ARE PERFECT blickt hinter die Casting-Kulissen und findet non-binäre und trans Jugendliche auf unterschiedlichen Wegen der Selbstbestimmung: Für Kajtek ist eine Mastektomie wortwörtlich lebensrettend; Gosia hadert mit Ablehnung in der Kirchengemeinde und liebt Wera; das Coming-out ist oder war für alle ein Kraftakt. Hier werden Menschen sichtbar, deren Körper öffentlich und medial oft verhandelt werden, ohne dass sie gefragt würden. In diesem erhellenden Porträt, das auch elterliche Perspektiven nicht ausspart, sind sie selbst am Wort. (Jakob Dibold)

Due to a final casting call targeted to young non-binary and trans people for a Netflix film that is about to be filmed in Poland, Marek Kozakiewicz dwells on the multiple challenges these individuals have to face in a country infamously hostile to the LGBTIQA+ community and their rights. (…) All of them experience a dissociative reality; on the one hand, the prospect of a unique opportunity, representing a significant step towards the issue of visibility and equal rights. On the other, a forceful, ultraconservative, nationalistic, zealously religious pole roaring even louder, and threatening to plunge Poland into darkness.
