Close-Up Kurdistan

Im Dokumentarfilm Close up Kurdistan stellt Regisseur Yüksel Yavuz eine Verbindung zwischen seiner persönlichen Geschichte als Immigrant und dem aktuellen Stand des türkisch–kurdischen Konflikts her. Seine Reise beginnt in Hamburg, wo er heute lebt, führt ihn nach Stockholm und in die Türkei und endet im Flüchtlingslager Maxmur im irakischen Kurdistan. Nach dem Besuch bei seinen Eltern im Dorf begegnet er Verwandten, alten Freunden und anderen Protagonisten in Ankara, Istanbul, Diyarbakir, in ländlichen Gebieten und im kurdischen Teil des Irak. Auf seinem Weg trifft er auf unterschiedliche Menschen und ihre Schicksale - Menschen, die sowohl noch in der Türkei als auch im europäischen Exil leben.

Yavuz creates a connection between his personal story of immigration and the current situation of the Turkish-Kurdish conflict. In the film he makes a personal journey which takes him from Hamburg via Stockholm to Turkey, ending in the north of Iraq, in the refugee camp Maxmur in Iraqi Kurdistan. Throughout this journey he meets, among others, his parents and old friends, some of whom went to the mountains to become guerrilla fighters, others who fled the country and went into exile. The film moves along a fine line between political facts and personal stories.
