Regarde-moi

Es ist ein Tag in der Pariser Vorstadt Colombes. Jo ist als Nachwuchsspieler beim berühmten Londoner Fußballclub Arsenal angenommen worden und ist in Gedanken schon weit weg. Sein Freund Yannik ist damit beschäftigt, seine Flamme Melissa zurückzuerobern. Auch Mouss ist beschäftigt, Daphne zu beeindrucken. Fatimata und Juli, beide in Jo verliebt, bleiben 24 Stunden, um eine Entscheidung herbeizuführen. Die 24 Stunden werden in zwei Durchläufen erzählt, zuerst aus männlicher, danach aus weiblicher Sicht. Der Perspektivenwechsel zeigt nicht nur zwei Seiten einer Geschichte, sondern verdeutlicht auch die Rollenmuster, die in der Vorstadt herrschen, und wie jegliches Abweichen davon sanktioniert wird.

The young people in this film wear the colors of the world they live in: black and white. Their lives play out in a suburban settlement, where they meet, talk, quarrel, and fall in love with each other. Life here is not simple. In my case, it was the experiences of my youth. I lived in Paris until my mother remarried and we moved to the banlieue. I was 13 and didn’t understand what went on around me.
