The Lion Escaped
2010 steht Südafrika mit seiner Fußball-WM im Fokus der Welt. Man spricht von einer Chance für den ganzen Kontinent. Und: Südafrika fungiert dabei als Vorbild für andere Länder. Doch das Land hat ein viele Lebensbereiche lähmendes Problem: HIV/AIDS. Seine HIV-Rate ist eine der höchsten der Welt. Die Ursachen liegen im Erbe der Apartheid-Zeit und des gesellschaftlichen Umbruchs. The Lion Escaped zeigt Menschen aus Städten und ländlichen Gegenden im Kampf gegen AIDS: politische Entscheidungsträger, Kirchenvertreter und Intellektuelle; NGO-Arbeiter, Wunderheiler und von der Seuche Betroffene.
In 2010 the eyes of the world are on South Africa with its football World Cup. There is talk of an opportunity for the whole continent. Plus: South Africa stands here as a role model for other countries. Yet the country has a problem that paralyzes many areas of life: HIV/AIDS. South Africa’s HIV rate is one of the highest in the world. The causes are rooted in the legacy of the Apartheid era and social upheaval. The Lion Escaped shows people from cities and rural areas fighting against AIDS.
Regie Biografie
Peter Waldenberger, geb. 1968, in Wels, lebt und arbeitet als Journalist, Autor und Regisseur in Wien. Seit 2002 Lehrauftrag an der Donau-Uni Krems. 2007 Gründung des Medienbüros name*it – positive media production.
