Luciano ist ein kleiner Fischhändler in Neapel, der es liebt, mit den Kunden und seiner vielköpfigen Familie alberne Späße zu treiben. Luciano scheint der geborene Unterhalter zu sein und so lässt er sich auch nicht lange bitten, als seine Kinder ihm die Idee unterbreiten, sich doch beim Casting zum italienischen Pendant von „Big Brother“ zu bewerben. Mit Blick auf den verheißungsvollen Geldpreis, den es zu gewinnen gibt, und dem damit einhergehenden Ruhm konzentriert sich Luciano fortan nur noch auf die vermeintliche Teilnahme an der Fernsehshow und läuft dabei Gefahr, die Realität aus den Augen zu verlieren. Garrones REALITY gewann 2012 den Großen Preis der Jury beim Filmfestival in Cannes.
In REALITY director Matteo Garrone tells the story of Luciano, a Neapolitan fishmonger who supplements his modest income by pulling off little scams together with his wife Maria. A likeable, entertaining guy, Luciano never misses an opportunity to perform for his customers and countless relatives. One day his family urge him to try out for ‘Il Grande Fratello’, the Italian counterpart of ‘Big Brother’. In chasing this dream his perception of reality begins to change. The film was awarded the Grand Prize of the Jury at the Cannes Film Festival in 2012.
Director's Biography
MATTEO GARRONE, born 1968 in Rome, Italy. He graduated from art school in 1986 and dedicated several years to painting afterwards. In 1996 Garrone made his first short film Silhouette and at the same time founded his production company Archimede. The Crossing Europe Film Festival dedicated a Tribute program to the director in 2004.
