Der Sommer geht zu Ende. Und im Süden Frankreichs bereiten Beatrice und ihr Sohn den Verkauf ihres Ferienhauses vor. Was hier innerhalb der kurzen Zeitspanne von nur einer Woche jedoch tatsächlich passiert, hat für die englische Mittelklassefamilie weit schwerwiegendere Folgen: Während der fünfzehnjährige Elliot mit seiner Sexualität und der damit einhergehenden Abnabelung von seiner Mutter zu kämpfen hat, realisiert Beatrice, dass es in ihrer Ehe mit Philip inzwischen keine Liebe mehr gibt. Kurz: Ihr Leben, wie sie es einmal kannten, ist zu Ende. Ehe und Kindheit ebenso. Und als mit Clément ein enigmatischer Teenager aus der Gegend auftaucht, können Mutter und Sohn ihren Sehnsüchten endlich nachgeben.
An English family prepares the sale of their holiday home in the south of France. Over one week, the teenage son, Elliot, wrestles with his burgeoning sexuality while his mother, Beatrice, confronts the end of her marriage to his father, who harbors a secret of his own. Haunted by a figure on the landscape and stirred by an enigmatic local boy who quietly enters their lives, mother and son are led to confront each other and their awakening desires. Touched by myth and landscape, Departure narrates the story of the end of a marriage, the end of childhood, and the end of an otherwise nuclear middle class family.
Regie Biografie
ANDREW STEGGALL is a British actor and director. He studied at London’s Central School of Speech and Drama and has directed various theater plays in Great Britain, Ireland, and Italy. Steggall is the director of such acclaimed short films as The Red Bike, The Door, and To the Marriage of True Minds.
