The Longest Run
Jasim und Alsaleh sitzen als minderjährige Flüchtlinge in einem griechischen Gefängnis ein. Aus Syrien respektive dem Irak kommend, wurden sie an der griechisch-türkischen Grenze als illegale Einwanderer verhaftet und der Schlepperei bezichtigt. Denn unter Androhung von Gewalt hat man sie zuvor einen Flüchtlingstrupp über die Grenze führen lassen. Die Menschenhändler blieben dezent im Hintergrund. Werden Jasim und Alsaleh schuldig gesprochen, droht ihnen nun eine lange Haftstrafe. Dass ihre Lage eine doppelt beklemmende ist, akzentuieren die Telefongespräche mit ihren noch immer im Kriegsgebiet befindlichen Müttern. Keiner weiß, wann und wo ihre lange Flucht enden wird.
Jasim and Alsaleh are underage refugees in a Greek prison. Coming from Syria and Iraq, they were arrested and accused of smuggling illegal immigrants. A narrative of suspense reveals how youngsters are forced to transport migrants across the border to Greece while the actual smugglers stay in the background. If Jasim and Alsaleh are found guilty, they will face extremely long prison sentences. Phone conversations between the imprisoned young men and their mothers at their war-stricken countries accentuate the double enclosure that these families experience. No one knows how and when their long run will end.

MARIANNA ECONOMOU is an award-winning Greek documentary filmmaker and producer. She directs and produces independent theatrical documentaries and TV documentary series with a strong focus on social issues.
