Joy, gespielt von der Regisseurin, ist eine junge, in Tel Aviv lebende Frau, die sich nach Intimität sehnt und gleichzeitig Angst davor hat. Praktisch die ganze Welt spaziert durch ihre Wohnung und durch ihre Straße, in der auch ihr Ex lebt. Dieser wehrt sich mit Händen und Füßen dagegen, mit ihr in Kontakt zu bleiben. Verzweifelt versucht Joy, ihn zurückzuerobern und weigert sich, ihn loszulassen – bis sie auf den geschwätzigen Intellektuellen Nir trifft, der sagt und tut, was immer er gerade will. Im Versuch, genauso frei zu sein wie er, soll sich Joy anderen gegenüber grausam verhalten und einen zwanghaften Hunger nach Berührung entwickeln …
Joy is a young woman living in Tel Aviv who has a love-hate relationship with its casual sex scene. Virtually the entire world comes down to her apartment and the street where it is located, the same street where her ex, who refuses to keep in touch with her, lives. Joy tries desperately to get him back, refusing to let him go – until she runs into Nir, a chatty intellectual, who says and does whatever he wants. In her attempts to be free like him, Joy will be cruel to others and develop an obsessive hunger for touch …
Director's Biography
HADAS BEN AROYA, born in 1988, is an Israeli filmmaker, scriptwriter, and producer from Tel Aviv. In 2014, Ben Aroya graduated from the Steve Tisch School of Film and Television at Tel Aviv University. During her studies, she wrote and directed the short film Sex Doll. People That Are Not Me is her feature film debut.
