A Violent Life
Obwohl er mit dem Tod bedroht wird, entscheidet sich Stéphane, nach Korsika zurückzukehren. Grund ist das Begräbnis seines Waffenkameraden Christophe, der ermordet wurde. Für Stéphane ist dies Anlass, sich an die Ereignisse zu erinnern, die ihn, einen kultivierten, bürgerlichen Studenten aus Bastia, von Kleinkriminalität über politische Radikalisierung bis in den nationalistischen Untergrund geführt haben. Regisseur Thierry de Peretti stammt selbst aus Korsika. Une vie violente ist von wahren Geschichten und insbesondere vom Leben von Nicolas Montigny inspiriert, einem jungen korsischen Nationalisten, dessen Tod bis heute nicht aufgeklärt ist.
A Corsican radical risks his life by returning to the island where a death warrant awaits in Thierry de Peretti's second feature. Narratively complex, A Violent Life gradually draws viewers into an inexorable tragedy. Less interested in dramatizing crime than in exposing the hidden stakes of power, history and memory that underpin Corsica's tourist-friendly image, de Peretti doesn't skirt the issue of violence - several cold blood murders happen on screen - while DP Claire Mathon's lensing keeps pace with the action, giving the lm a compelling physical vitality that happens to be one of de Peretti's key strengths. Thierry de Peretti
Actor and director Thierry de Peretti was born in 1970 in Ajaccio. He had parts in “Le silence” by Orso Miret, and “Those Who Love Me Can Take the Train” by Patrice Chéreau. For his directing debut “Apache” he received the prize for Best Fiction Feature at Crossing Europe 2014. His film “A Violent Life” had its world premiere at the la Semaine de la Critique in Cannes in 2017.
