SARGIS – Das Leben ist so eine Sache ist das Porträt des Linzer Gewichthebers Sargis Martirosyan. Jahrelang musste er im Fernsehen mitansehen, wie andere Athleten Medaillen gewannen, die er selbst hätte holen können. Doch so außergewöhnlich sein Talent auch war und so erfolgversprechend seine Zukunft schien, eine Chance dazu bekam er nicht. Asyl wurde ihm verwehrt und sein Einbürgerungsantrag mehrere Jahre nicht bearbeitet. Seine Karrierechancen schwanden dahin. Doch nun, im Herbst seiner Laufbahn, tritt er endlich dazu an, seinen großen Traum wahr zu machen und die erste Medaille für Österreich seit 34 Jahren zu holen.

SARGIS – Such Is Life tells the story of Sargis Martirosyan, Austria’s best weightlifter. For years he had to watch other athletes on TV win medals he could have won. But as exceptional as his talent was, and as promising as his future appeared, he wasn’t given the opportunity. His request for asylum was refused and his application for “citizenship in the interests of the Republic of Austria” was not processed for several years. His career and the fulfillment of his dreams dwindled inexorably. But now, in the twilight of his career, he goes all-in to make his dream come true and get Austria’s first podium finish in 34 years.

Regie Biografie

Stefan Langthaler
Born and raised in Vienna. From 2008 to 2013 he studied writing and directing at filmcollege Wien. His graduation film “ALONE” stars Florian Teichtmeister, Simon Schwarz and Hilde Dalik. “SARGIS – Such Is Life” is his first feature film. In his early youth he participated successfully in weightlifting competitions.
