Auf der Autobiografie des ehemaligen Fußballers Martin Bengtsson basierend, dreht sich der Film um das (vielleicht doch nicht so) glorreiche Leben von Profispielern. Als Martin mit nur 16 Jahren von seinem Lieblingsclub in Mailand angeworben wird, geht sein Lebenstraum in Erfüllung. Jedoch merkt er schnell, dass die Wirklichkeit nicht ganz mit seiner Vorstellung übereinstimmt. Er versteht die Sprache nicht, seine Mitspieler mobben ihn, er steht unter Druck und hat ständig Angst davor, verkauft zu werden. Sein Wunschtraum verwandelt sich mehr und mehr zum Alptraum.
