Surviving Gusen
Dieser eindringliche Film würdigt drei Überlebende des Lagerkomplexes Gusen, auf dessen Areal heute eine Einfamilienhaussiedlung steht. 71.000 Menschen wurden während des nationalsozialistischen Terrors dorthin deportiert, mehr als die Hälfte davon starb an den katastrophalen Bedingungen, durch Misshandlung und Folter oder durch die Arbeit im nahegelegenen Stollensystem – bis in die letzten Kriegstage. Die scheinbare Idylle der Landschaftsaufnahmen steht in Kontrast zu den Erinnerungen der drei Männer und den nüchtern vorgelesenen Buchpassagen, Gendarmerieprotokollen und Expert*innenberichten. On a quest for traces of the "invisible camp“. A search for the last evidence of humanity in the darkest chapter of Austrian history. 75 years after the end of the Nazi terror regime and the liberation of the concentration camps Mauthausen and Gusen, the filmmakers are determined to keep the promise they made to one of the three leading protagonists of this essayistic documentary: to make sure that what happened in Gusen will never be forgotten.
