GUERRA E PACE untersucht das zwiespältige Verhältnis zwischen Krieg und Kino seit der Zeit der italienischen Invasion in Libyen 1911, als die Bilder noch nicht lange das Laufen gelernt hatten, und schlägt darüber den Bogen in unsere Gegenwart mit ihren Konflikten und den technischen Möglichkeiten in einer sozial-medial geprägten Gesellschaft, in der auch Soldaten zu Smartphone und Kamera greifen lernen, um Kampf, Konsequenzen und Kollateralschäden zu dokumentieren. WAR AND PEACE tells the story of the relationship between cinema and war, one that has lasted for over a century. From the sequences filmed by the pioneers of cinema to today’s videos shot on smartphones the step appears very short and the relationship between the movies and war a very strong one. WAR AND PEACE is a reflection on images and, as in a long novel divided into four chapters (remote past, recent past, present and future), tries to put all the pieces of the fragmented visual memory from the early years of the 20th century until today back together.
