Proxima: Die Astronautin

Sarah ist eine französische Astronautin, die bei der European Space Agency in Köln ein Training absolviert. Sie ist die einzige Frau, die an dem Programm teilnimmt. Die alleinerziehende Mutter hat ein schlechtes Gewissen, weil sie zu wenig Zeit mit Stella, ihrer siebenjährigen Tochter, verbringt. Als Sarah ausgewählt wird, an einer Weltraum-Mission namens „Proxima“ teilzunnehmen, spitzt sich die Situation zu. Alice Winocour gelingt mit Starbesetzung (Eva Green, Matt Dillon, Sandra Hüller, Lars Eidinger) ein intensives Porträt einer ungewöhnlichen Mutter-Tochter-Beziehung. (Andreas Ungerböck)

Sarah is an astronaut and a mother, a far more common combination in real life than it is in the movies. She trains for her first space mission as she navigates the frustrations of shared parenting with her ex-husband. Attentive both to the fascinating details of how an astronaut prepares and the more mundane demands of motherhood, Winocour reveals a woman responding to escalating and competing stresses. As the liftoff date approaches, Sarah must travel to the launch site and go into quarantine — away from her daughter. Will Stella's matter-of-fact counsellor bridge their emotional divide? Regie Biografie
Alice Winocour was born in Paris in 1976. She graduated from La Fémis and, after directing several short films, worked on the screenplay for Vladimir Perisic's ORDINARY PEOPLE (CE'10). Her first two feature films, AUGUSTINE and DISORDER, played at Toronto International Film Festival, where PROXIMA premiered as well. She has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 2016.
