Sokea mies, joka ei halunnut nähdä Titanicia

Jakko ist blind und auf den Rollstuhl angewiesen, was seinen Tagesablauf nicht sehr abwechslungsreich gestaltet. Doch der Popkulturfan hat eine Telefonfreundin namens Sirpka, in die er verliebt ist, obwohl er sie nie getroffen hat. Als er erfährt, dass es ihr gesundheitlich immer schlechter geht, beschließt er, sich ohne Assistenz auf den Weg zu ihr zu machen. Die mehrstündige Reise hat schöne Momente zu bieten – aber auch unvermutete Schrecken … Nikkis packende Inszenierung erzählt konsequent aus der Perspektive Jakkos, der brillant von Petri Poikolainen (auch im echten Leben MS-Patient) verkörpert wird. Ein wahrer „crowd pleaser“, der bereits den Publikumspreis in der Orrizonti-Sektion bei den Filmfestspielen von Venedig entgegennehmen konnte. (Oliver Stangl)

Poikolainen is outstanding in the leading role. He has an endearing charm and wonderful sense of humour that sparks an instant connection with the viewer. Whether he’s teasing his carer by calling her Annie Wilkes or joking with Sirpa over the phone, it’s impossible not to root for his happiness. And its precisely this that makes Jakko’s later ordeal so nerve-wracking to watch, with the actor nailing every beat of his performance. It’s not everyday that a film can take audiences on an emotional journey of this magnitude: it’s funny, loving, compassionate and, at times, terrifying.
