Łoziński richtet die Kamera vom Balkon seiner Wohnung in Warschau aus auf die Straße und fragt die Vorübergehenden nach ihrem Befinden und nach ihrer Meinung. Wer stehen bleibt, um etwas mitzuteilen, muss nach oben sehen. Einmal fragt auch einer, ob er, der Filmemacher, sich in seinem Beichtstuhl wohl fühle. Doch selbst wer in diesem Ausschnitt gegenwärtiger Wirklichkeit nicht „Gott und die Welt“ erblickt, bekommt in den mitunter überraschend spielerischen Interaktionen allerhand geboten: schwierige Fragen, beiläufige Antworten, profunde Erkenntnisse. Nicht zuletzt die, wie wichtig es ist, den Mund aufzumachen und auf offene Ohren zu treffen. (Alexandra Seitz)

Director Pawel Łoziński is a visual anthropologist studying the subjects on his doorstep. From his balcony, he directs his camera at the sidewalk in front of his apartment building. On this gray strip of pavement, sandwiched between dull green grass and a tall wire fence, a colorful procession of locals, relatives, passersby and homeless people walk by. Łoziński tries to strike up a conversation with everyone. He asks who they are, what they do, and what they think about the meaning of life. With a frank approach, his camera and microphone always present, Łoziński captures minor frustrations and personal dramas. Creating a space for dialogue, he turns the sidewalk in a quiet Warsaw neighborhood into a stage presenting every facet of contemporary Polish life. (IDFA)
