A fost sau n-a fost?

The owner and host of a small TV station brings two locals on his show as to re-create the moment of revolution in their provincial hometown. Empowered by the television camera, they tell us about the heroic rioting that took place at the city square in December 1989, hours before Ceaușescu fled. But when viewers start calling in and deny what has been said and pretended, the guests find themselves in great difficulty, and the film turns irresistibly funny. The film is a sharp portrait of the events as seen from a local perspective, and well deserves the award of the Golden Camera for best debut film in Cannes. (Rik Vermeulen)
