Francesca
In a country still under the spell of the Western Dream and the mirage of working abroad, Francesca, a 30-year-old teacher at a kindergarten, longs to emigrate to Italy. She seems to get close to fulfilling her dream when one of her friends, Maria, arranges a meeting with a middleman named Pandele. He claims to be working for the Workforce Migration Office, and “promises” Francesca that in exchange for 2.000 euros he will get her a job as a nurse attending to an old man in Sant’Angelo Lodinese, near Milan, a job for which she would receive a monthly paycheck of 900 euros.
Director's Biography
Bobby Păunescu, geb. 1974 in Bukarest. Verbrachte seine Kindheit in Italien. Studierte Management und Marketing in Lugano, Schweiz, und Film an der USC in Los Angeles. Arbeitet als Regisseur, Drehbuchautor und Produzent. 2004 gründete er gemeinsam mit Anca und Cristi Puiu Mandragora Movies. Im selben Jahr produzierten sie einen der int. erfolgreichsten rumänischen Filme: Moartea domnului Lăzărescu (The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, 2004). 2009 produzierte Păunescu Aurora, Cristi Puiu‘s dritten Spielfilm.
