Karger
Shot in Riesa, Saxony, with layperson actors in the leading roles, Karger
tells of the everyday life of a steelworker in between restructuring, divorce and the start of a new love relationship in
the form of a ballad. The name of the protagonist, “Karger” (we never find out his first name), is a cipher for one who rejects
the conventional psychology of the social drama, who is only perception throughout long stretches of the film. Pub, factory,
courtroom, night streets: a life that has not yet arrived in the post-industrial society, indecision as an attitude between
resistance and conformity.
