Cinema without Borders - Positive Festival Resume

For six days, Austria's third-largest film festival - after the Viennale and Diagonale festivals - presented cinemagoers with new perspectives from all over Europe. The program offered 148 hand-picked feature films and documentaries from more than 30 countries, with current socio-political but also artistic and eccentric works, highlights of the festival season and regional filmmaking.

Festival impressions, festival guests, and snapshots from the festival edition 2022 can be viewed HERE. The most beautiful #crossingmoments can be found on our channels: The Crossing Europe Photo Gallery (powered by SUBTEXT.AT) and our Instagram channel artfully set the scene for this year’s festival edition. Enjoy!

And so it begins: get your tickets!

Film Guests & Talks

From April 27 to May 2, we are bringing Europe to the cinema for our audience. In addition to 148 current feature films, documentaries and short films from 34 different countries, around 120 film guests from all over Europe will also be traveling to Linz to present their work in person. On our website you can find info about which guests will be present.

Competition Fiction

Whether private or socio-political, this competition with 11 films is thematically broad. A journey across Europe - not always straightforward, sometimes unorthodox, but always passionate. The Competition Fiction jury gives out the Best Fiction award (€ 5000,- powered by Linz Kultur) to the director of the award-winning film. The audience chooses the Audience Award (€ 5000,-powered by Land Oberösterreich Kultur).

Highly recommended! The Supporting Program 2022

In addition to a hand-picked film program at CROSSING EUROPE, the festival 2022 will be complemented and enriched by a diverse supporting program once again.

Festival Juries 2022

We are happy to announce that a total of 14 jury members will be attending in-person in Linz. There they will decide on the winning films in the competition sections Competition Fiction, Competition Documentary, and Competition Local Artists. The entries in the competition section YAAAS! Competition will be judged by the YAAAS! Youth Jury.

Press Conference 2022 – 13 April, 10 am

On April 13, at 10 am, this year's press conference will be broadcast live from the Moviemento, online via live stream.

Less than two weeks until the 19th CROSSING EUROPE

In just under two weeks Linz will once again become the central hub for European cinema: The nineteenth edition of CROSSING EUROPE Film Festival will take place between 27 April and 2 May 2022.

Sociopolitical film highlights

Within the nineteenth edition of CROSSING EUROPE many films that will celebrate their Austrian premieres also deal with topics of sociopolitical relevance, such as displacement as a direct result of war, but also films that insist on a strengthening of a European community of solidarity.

Opening Films on 27 April 2022

In 2022 CROSSING EUROPE will once again open with multiple films that represent a cross section of this year’s festival program and show the great variety of contemporary European film.
