Jas sum od Titov Veles

Titov Veles is a small, ancient city in Macedonia with a toxic lead factory right downtown. The three sisters at the heart of I Am from Titov Veles are inhabitants of a shattered landscape failed by both communism and capitalism. They find that deprivation is never easy to escape, even with the help of one’s sisters. Through a touch of magical realism and a dark sense of humour Mitevska manages to mine beauty from even the toughest situations and settings. With Macedonian society in a shambles, the film examines not only the plight of women, but also their enormous will to survive – and to thrive – whatever the cost. (Dimitri Eipides)
